Art residencies program

For the next three years, Le Garage Moderne is launching an artist residency program.

Two categories of artists are involved in this call for projects:
- International artists, working outside their country of residence.
- Local artists residing in Nouvelle Aquitaine.
It is planned to program 5 international residencies and 3 local residencies per year at Garage Moderne. The international and local residencies are held simultaneously, so that the selected artists develop forms of cooperation.
OASIS is a Creative Europe project, supported by a consortium of very different venues: from the Theatre of Budapest to the Intercultural Festival in Georgia. Each venue retains its singularity, issuing calls for residencies to bring in artists whose practices respond to contexts that are always situated and singular. Each of the consortium's venues has its own call for residencies, which will also be published here.

General Conditions

A grant of €1,300 Brut is available for each artist. Transportation and accommodation for international artists are covered within the fixed rates defined in the call for residencies. A budget for supplies is also provided.
Residencies last 15 days, and must give rise to a tangible or intangible production, to be presented at the end of the residency. To ensure that each residency is integrated into the life of the site, the restitution will be integrated into the site's programming.
Each artist will therefore operate in a context that will determine his or her practice, and give him or her the opportunity to contribute to the site's community.

Mediation and civic integration

Residencies are intended to be open-ended, and the artists selected must be able to involve audiences in their practices, through participatory workshops, collaborations with amateurs, or an approach that takes as its raw material the stories and concerns of participants.
The works produced may be objects of common good, or they may be formulated as responses to subjects of collective interest, or linked to public space.

Relation to the building and the city

In 2025, the Garage is under construction. This constraint is an opportunity to integrate into the renovation, and the architectural permanence that accompanies it, an artistic presence that will leave a material or immaterial trace in the building.
The residency thus makes it possible to produce a kind of "1% culturel", radically contextual and cosmopolitan, in the image of the place.
For 2025, we therefore envisage that all or part of the guest artists' workspaces will be located directly on the building site, in the living quarters and in a bus that has been installed in the public space for the duration of the works.
With the support of the Bordeaux Patrimoine Mondial mission, we're working to ensure that the creative residencies converge with opportunities to discover the site as a historic monument (Heritage Days, Urban Walks organized by the Heritage mission).
The Base Vie du chantier is designed to accommodate the public and artists, in addition to its initial function of providing amenities.  It is conceived as a permanent architectural presence, a place where those who (re)make the building and those who will bring it to life when it is completed can meet.
